Chandigarh, January 30, 2018: Dr.Tirthankar Bhattacharya, a Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Art History and Visual Arts, Faculty of Design and Fine Arts at the Panjab University(PU) Chandigarh has taken over as the Chairman of the Department and the Director of the Museum of Fine Arts at PU for the second term.
He has a brilliant academic career throughout, he is a Gold Medalist in the subject of Art History in his masters at the PU.Dr.Tirthankar possesses a post graduate diploma in journalism and also has a deep knack towards interior and fashion
designing.
In today’s highly materialistically driven society Dr.Tirthankar is one of the few who is a fine blend of traditionalist - modernity and contemporarity and believes in the values of the traditional guru shishya parampara .
Dr. Tirthankar has to his credit over thirty two research papers published in various internationally acclaimed research journals and publications , including his contribution to the Bibliography Project on Art History of the Kern Institute of Leyden
and a number of articles in the Encyclopedia of Hinduism.
Dr. Tirthankar has been curating several significant and perspective exhibitions in India by merging visual and performing arts. He is deeply engrossed as the honorary director of Manasollasa, an initiative to promote visual and performing arts. He also has expertise in art advisory services on art procurement and investing in art. He has been deeply involved in the art activities as a former member of the executive committee of the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi.
Dr. Tirthankar Bhattacharya’s book titled Iconography in the Manasollasa –The Ecstasy of Mind has been widely acclaimed and he specializes in the study of Indian Art and Iconography.
