Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry to make education more career-oriented
Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni in Solan District of Himachal Pradesh seems to be serious about teaching students with modern methods and learning tools. The objective is to make students more capable in their practical life after completion of studies in the present era of knowledge. An indication to this effect was given by the university’s vice chancellor Dr Parvinder Kaushal during an interaction with the university students. In his address, Dr Kaushal said, sincere efforts will be made to utilize modern aids of teaching and learning and make education more career-oriented so that the students become more employable.” Dr Kaushal urged the students to improve the quality of their research publications and advised them to work on writing quality publications in top journals during their postgraduate studies. He said that these publications will not only help them in their career but also act as a morale booster for conducting bigger and better research. Assuring the students of developing a proper mechanism to look into the areas of improvement by incorporating suggestions, Dr Kaushal said that the university would look towards imparting more career-oriented education so that they can benefit from these at the time of applying for jobs. He said linking students’ research problems with research projects so that they get a chance to gain valuable work experience during their studies, will also be looked into. Further, Dr Kaushal said that opportunities to visit the best laboratories in the country in the concerned field will also be provided to the students so that they can see the working of the best institutions in the country and incorporate it in their own working. It may be mentioned here that the event was not one way communication. Rather, the interaction proved a successful two-way communication between the vice chancellor and the students. The students attending the event were given a sufficient time to share their grievances and gave suggestions on improving the overall learning environment. Detailed discussions were also held on smart classrooms and interactive boards, focus on improving classroom teaching, and strengthening the internet facilities and library timings.
