Chandigarh, July 9, 2018: Dr Namita Gupta, Chairperson, Centre for Human Rights and Duties has been invited to chair a session on “Slums as Manifestation of Urban Poverty, Social Inequality, Denial of Social Justice and Human Rights in Global South: Some Emerging Sociological Questions” in XIX World Congress of Sociology to be held in Toronto (Canada). The Congress is organized by International Sociological Association from July 15 to July 21, 2018.
The theme of the Congress is “Power, Violence and Justice: Reflections, Responses and Responsibilities”. Besides this, she will be organizing sessions on “Gender Based Violence in Global South: Issues and Challenges” and “Feminization of Poverty: Mainstreaming Gender Perspective to Address Poverty”. She has been an active member of ISA and has presented two papers in ISA’s World Congress of Sociology held at Vienna in 2016.
