Nauni (Himachal Pradesh), October 7, 2019: Dr ML Bhardwaj has joined as the new Dean of College of Horticulture, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni.
Before joining the present position, Dr Bhardwaj was serving as the Associate Director at Regional Horticultural Research and Training Station (RHRTS), Jachh. Hailing from Naghiar Village of district Bilaspur, Dr Bhardwaj is an alumnus of the erstwhile College of Agriculture, Solan. He has had a distinguished career of over 30 years of research, teaching and extension.
Dr Bhardwaj started his career as Assistant Scientist (Vegetable Science) in 1989 from RHRTS Jachh where he worked on sub-tropical vegetable crops and standardized the production technologies for different vegetables for the lower regions of the state. Besides working on organic production of crops, Dr Bhardwaj also screened various varieties of vegetable for their suitability in the lower regions. Dr Bhardwaj has also served KVK Chamba as Programme Coordinator between 2001 and 2009. During his tenure, the effective demonstration and transfer of various farm technologies to the farmers also won accolades from the ICAR. He also served as Professor and Head of Department of Vegetable Science from 2011 to 2014 during which he emphasized the breeding of high yielding varieties of various crops. Dr Bhardwaj has been associated with the development of varieties like Solan Rachna (carrot), Solan Giriganga (ginger), Solan Kriti (lettuce) and Solan Srijan (cucumber). He has more than 150 publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
Dr Bhardwaj said that his priorities will be to strengthen the facilities for quality education and research for better academic and research output and more emphasis will be given to harness the competitive skills of the students for better performances at the national and international level and ensure better employability. Dr Bhardwaj thanked the University Vice-Chancellor Dr Parvinder Kaushal for giving him the important responsibility. University officials and staff congratulated him on his appointment.
