Ludhiana, April 1, 2015: Dr Kushal Singh, Senior Plant Physiologist, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) was given a warm send off on his superannuation. The senior officials of PAU, retired horticulture scientists, and faculty of the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping attended Dr Kushal’s farewell function.

Dr Jaspal Singh, Chief Engineer; and Dr J.S. Dhiman, Additional Director of Research, (Natural Resource and Plant Health Management) lauded the meritorious services of Dr Kushal. They said “During his 33 years of service at PAU, Dr Kushal has made immense contributions to the post-harvest management of flowers, techniques for the dehydration of flowers, and production technology of ornamentals.” They wished him a healthy and wealthy post-retirement life.

Dr Premjit Singh, Head, Floriculture and Landscaping, while highlighting the achievements of Dr Kushal, said “He gave recommendations on techniques to improve vase life, storage and drying of flowers and herbicidal control of weeds in gladiolus.” He is a fellow of Indian Society of Ornamental Horticulture and has 90 publications to his credit, added Dr Singh.

Dr Kushal expressed his sincere gratitude to the officials and faculty of PAU for recognising his contributions.

Dr Kuhsal did his Ph.D from Panjab University, Chandigarh and joined PAU in 1982 at Regional Research Station, Bathinda as Assistant Plant Physiologist. Later, he joined the Department of Vegetable Crops, Floriculture and Landscaping in 1986. Dr Kushal has served as Head, Department of Botany, PAU from February 2008 to January 2012 and as officiating Head, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping from August 2010 to May 2013. Besides, he has worked at the University of Bath, England as a Commonwealth Post Doctoral Fellow and studied the mechanism to understand the process of flower senescence in chrysanthemum and carnation.
