Ludhiana, August 18, 2014: In the medicinal and technical arenas the research and development expenditure is increasing at a galloping pace. This is not to make the treatment or therapy expensive or inexpensive but the sole aim of these specific research and developments is to make treatment of an ailment more effective.
Efforts of the leading orthopedic surgeon Dr.Balwant Singh Hunjan (Hunjan Bone & Joint Hospital, Model Gram, Ludhiana) have been recognised and Dr. Hunjan was felicitated by H.S.Gohalwaria (Mayor) M.C Ludhiana and Prof Frederic Picard (Golden Jubilee National Hospital, U.K) on successfully completing 1200 computerised navigation knee replacement surgeries using latest generation computer navigation Orthopilot machine. On the occasion existing patients were invited and the patients who undergone knee surgery also performed Bhangra.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Balwant Singh Hunjan said, “I thank and mayor for recognising the efforts and contribution we have made towards the society. Also, usage of Computer Assisted Joint Replacement technology has brought about a revolution in joint replacement surgery. The most common complication of joint replacement with manual procedure was mal-alignment in most of the patients. The new technology of Computer based Navigation system has totally eliminated the mal-alignment and has made joint replacement surgery more accurate. As the accuracy level is very high with computer navigation, it also helps in increasing the life of the implants.”
There are various reasons that make the computer navigation a supreme option as it increases the life of joint and results in greater stability and range of motion. It also reduces the risk of dislocation and revision surgery along with reduced blood loss during surgery leading to faster recovery. Computer navigation results in precise and errorless surgery thus ensuring shorter hospital stay which leads to faster return to a better quality of life.
