Mohali/Chandigarh, December 29, 2014: With a view to clear all the bottlenecks in the way of science education Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, Education Minister, Punjab today instructed department officials to opt for audio visual aids and other play way methods to make this subject friendly for the students. In a high level meeting with the District Science Supervisors (DSS) here at Punjab School Education Board Office, Mohali, he asked the department to chalk out strategy for the restructuring of state institute of science.
Dr Cheema asked the officers to form a special group in each district comprising of the expert science teachers and lectures who would work as resource person for making the science subject more interesting for the students. He also directed the DSS to identify the science lecturers who can volunteer themselves to provide free coaching to the desirous and needy students for the competitive exams.
Answering the queries of DSS Dr Cheema assured them to upgrade labs with latest equipment and books. Dr Cheema also instructed senior officers to make sure the science teachers not given non teaching work. It was also decided in the meeting that the students of far flung areas and students of those school with shortage of science teachers would be imparted science education through Eduset.
The minister also advised the DSS to make temporary arrangements at their own level to provide teachers to those schools which are facing paucity of teachers. He said that District Science Supervisor would be appointed on permanent base in each districts after obtaining approval from finance department. With view to popularise science in lower level he said that science fairs be organised too for primary students.
Prominent among others who were present in the meeting included Principal Secretary C Roul, Special Secretary Ajoy Sharma, DPI (Secondary Education) Kamal Garg, DPI (Elementary Education) Darshan Kaur, SCERT Director Pankaj Sharma and Deputy State Project Director Ginni Duggal.
