Doctors gear up for research

Ludhiana, August 2, 2019: Medical faculty from various medical colleges of Punjab attended the first workshop on research methods conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research in association with the National Institute of Medical Statistics and National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research at Christian Medical College, Ludhiana.

This workshop was organised as part of the ICMR Dr Padam Singh initiative for research training and is the first in the series of training programs for doctors. The theme of this workshop was ‘Writing for research grants’.

Dr William Bhatti, Director of CMC Ludhiana welcomed the faculty and delegates and emphasised the importance of research in the changing health conditions. Dr Jeyaraj Pandian, Principal of CMC Ludhiana said that proper training in how to conduct research is an important step in finding the answers to problems related to health.Eminent faculty from the National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research, Noida, Dr Labani Satyanarayana and Dr Smita Asthana conducted lively hands-on sessions on how to develop a research proposal and correctly answer questions related to the changing health scenario.

The rising incidence of cancers and asthma in children in Punjab were touched upon. While the city battled the rain, doctors from all over Punjab gathered at CMC Ludhiana to prepare for research to battle the question of why the society’s health is getting adversely affected.

Dr Monika Sharma, Vice-Principal (Research) informed the delegates of CMC’s plan to continue research training programs for the medical fraternity.
