DMCH organises symposium on Emergency Medicine & Trauma

Ludhiana, May 11, 2014: Department of Medicine and Emergency Medicine under the aegis of Indo-US Academic Council for Emergency and Trauma today organised symposium on Emergency Medicine ‘CAPITAL-EM-2014’.The symposium was formally inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society- Prem Kumar Gupta alongwith Principal Dr Daljit Singh, Vice Prinicipal Dr Sandeep Puri, Dr Praveen Aggarwal (Dean, Academic College of Emergency Experts in India from AIIMS, New Delhi and Dr Ashish Bhalla (Additional Professor of Medicine from PGIMER, Chandigarh).Other dignitaries include Medical Superintendent Dr Ashwani Chaudhary, Additional Medical Superintendent Dr Sandeep Sharma, Chief Cardiologist Dr GS Wander and Assistant Dean Academics Dr Sandeep Kaushal
Vice-Principal & Organising Chairman Dr Sandeep Puri extended warm welcome to the dignitaries and participating delegates. In his address to the audience, Dr Puri Said that with the advent of specialization of emergency medicine, the emergency departments in medical colleges and major hospitals have seen a substantial change in the care of their patients, achieving shorter time of care, improving the time spent in the service, more rapid and timely treatment to critically-ill patients thus decreasing their morbidity and mortality. The on-going CME is an initiative to foster the growth of Emergency Medicine and Trauma Science for the medicos and distinguished experts from different medical colleges of the country will speak on important issues.   The scientific programmes, during the CME, has been designed for participants who deal or have an interest in Emergency Medicine and Trauma. Various experts from different medical specialties will be discussing different aspects of patient management in emergency, said Organizing Secretary-Dr Rajesh Mahajan (Professor of Medicine). Dr Mahajn proposed a vote of thanks to the dignitaries and delegates.
The symposium began with scientific session on ‘Neurological emergencies’ during which Dr Sahil, Dr Ashish Bhalla and Dr Parampreet Singh from PGIMER, Chandigarh delivered lectures on ‘Approach to a comatose patient in the emergency’ ‘Acute febrile encephalopathy’ and ‘Staus epilepyicus’ respectively..Dr Monika Singla from DMCH,Ludhiana spoke on ‘Recognizing and treating stroke early’. Other sessions that were conducted during the symposium include lectures on ‘Approach to a patient with poisoning in emergency’ by Dr Vikas Loomba from CMCH, Ludhiana, ’Aluminium phosphide: Newer Modalities by Dr Bishav Mohan from HDHI, Ludhiana, ”Pesticides and herbicides poisoning ‘ by Dr Surjit Singh from PGIMER,Chandigarh and ‘Common house hold poisons’ by Dr Sandeep Puri from DMCH, Ludhiana. Elaborate lectures on various aspects of ‘Invesigations in Emergency’ were delivered by eminent faculty from AIIMS, Delhi and PGIMER, Chandigarh   
AHA accredited BLS & ACLS programmes were also held in parallel at Government Medical College, Chandigarh from May 8 to 10.
In his important message to the audience, Dr Praveen Aggarwal (Dean, Academic College of Emergency Experts in India from AIIMS, New Delhi) said that such arrangements should be made that doctors from rural and peripheral areas also participate in CMEs on Emergency Medicine so as to get opportunity of enhancing their professional expertise.
