Ludhiana, December 11, 2019: Department of Microbiology in joint effort with Health Education Cell, DMCH observed a week long Antibiotic Awareness Week and HIV-AIDS Awareness Week.
Informative lectures were conducted during the week. Poster/ Slogan competition was conducted for paramedical students, nursing staff & students in the OPD block. The judges of the competition were Dr.Simran Wander (Medical Superintendent, ESI Zonal, Ludhiana), Dr. Ashima Taneja (Prof & Head Gynaecology, DMCH) & Dr.Veenu Gupta (Prof., Department of Microbiology, DMCH)
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Deepinder Chhina (Professor & Head of Microbiology, DMCH) said that it is very important for the people to know about possible precautions to prevent HIV infection.
Mr.Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary managing society, congratulated the Department of Microbiology for their continuous efforts in generation of awareness on Antibiotic usage & HIV-AIDS
It was informed that HIV infection can be easily transmitted through some specific activities, which include unsafe sex with multiple partners and repeated usage of same needle or syringe for substance abuse. Certain body fluids like blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk from a person with HIV can transmit HIV to another one.
Antibiotic Awareness Week observed from 18th-24th November. Various lectures and awareness talks were conducted to increase awareness of global antibiotic resistance and to encourage best practices among the general public and health workers. To avoid the further emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance, it was stressed that antibiotics should not be used by people randomly and without doctor’s proper prescription.
Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina (Professor of Gastroenterology & In charge-Health Education Cell, DMCH) said that Health Education Cell, DMCH has been coordinating with various departments of the hospital to organize health awareness lectures on various health issues.
The winners of Poster competition- Amanpreet, Anjali, Sonam, Simaldeep Singh, Devinder Guru, Ekta, Meenakshi , Taranjot & Sukhman in various categories
Slogan competition winners were Kirandeep Gill , Lavine Saray, Taranjot & Vishali.
