Ludhiana, May 14, 2018: Recently four undergraduate (MBBS) students of DMCH were awarded the “Short Term Research Studentship” (STS) program of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The students selected for project include Karan, Archita Chawla, Evani Jain and Chirag Gupta and they will do research on the following projects:-

Ø Impact of repeated health education delivery on antiepileptic drug adherence in people with chronic epilepsy in the community

Ø An ethnographic and structured assessment of treatment-seeking attitudes and behaviors of people with epilepsy in the community

Ø Perceptions and attitude of doctors towards usage of complementary and alternate medicine (CAM) in therapy

Ø Correlation between distance from health centre and adherence to clinic appointments and medication procurement among people with epilepsy in the community respectively.

Three of the students will be undertaking research in ‘Epilepsy’ while the fourth one will be look into the usage of complementary and alternate medicine (CAM) in therapy

Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta congratulated the students for their remarkable achievement & wished them all the best for their future. Principal Dr Sandeep Puri and Vice-Principal Dr Gurpreet S Wander (Chairman, Research & Development Centre) that every year, many undergraduate students from various colleges of the country applied for this short term research studentship program and it is a matter of pride that students of DMCH were selected for this prestigious progarmme.

According to Professor & Head of Neurology-Dr Gagandeep Singh, the main purpose of this program is to promote interest and aptitude for research among medical undergraduates so that they can familiarize themselves with research methodology and techniques by being associated for a short duration with their seniors on ongoing research program or by undertaking independent projects.

The ICMR short term studentship award carries cash prize of Rs 10,000/- only and awarded to approx. 500 students from around 10,000 applicants from various medical college across the country.
