DIWALI BONANZA: Five fold increase in honorarium for house surgeons and medical internship students

Chandigarh, October 26, 2012: Junior Doctors of Medical Education and Research Department are in for Diwali Bonanza with Punjab Government today announcing five fold increases in their honorarium.  According to the new orders the Punjab Government has increased the honourarium of the House Surgeons from Rs. 4500 to Rs. 21000 per month whereas the scholarship for the Medical internship students has been increased from Rs. 1500 to Rs. 9000 per month.

Disclosing this here today Punjab Medical and Research Education Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat said that this recent increase in honourarium of the House Surgeons would be effective from October 8, 2012 and increase in the scholarship of the medical internship students would be effective November 1, 2012.

Bhagat said that internship students of the Government Medical/Dental/Ayurvedic Colleges of the state would be entitled to claim the increase in scholarship whereas House Surgeons of the medical education and research department would be eligible to get the increase their honourarium.

The Minister further said that Punjab government has also decided in principle to further increase the honourarium of the House Surgeons from Rs. 21,000 to Rs. 30,000 but this increase would be effective from April 1, 2013.
