DISTRICT – LEVEL R-DAY celebrations at Ludhiana

Ludhiana, January 27, 2013: Charanjit Singh Atwal, Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha unfurled national flag during district-level R-Day function held at Government College for Boys here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, he spoke about contribution of Punjabis in freedom struggle for the nation. He said they were enjoying the freedom only because of sacrifices given by the freedom fighters. He remembered the freedom fighters such as Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, Lala Lajpat Rai, Kartar Singh Sarabha and Madan Lal Dhingra.

On the occasion, he inspected the parade and took a salute from various contingents who did a march past.

He also distributed sewing machines to eight needy women and tricycles to six physically challenged people.

The school students presented PT show and a cultural programme.

Sixteen tableaus showing development in different  spheres in the district were also taken out.

Speaker also honoured with cash money and mementoes the winners of a district-level essay writing competition on the topic `national integration and communal harmony’. Winners: 1. Harpreet Kaur, Dashmesh Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, 2. Saloni, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, Ludhiana and 3. Archit Chadha, Spring Date Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana.

Raghbir Singh, Nambardar of Saiankalan village, was also honoured with a memento for outstanding working.
