Chandigarh, November 6, 2015: War Veterans, Military Historians, academicians, serving and retired Indian Army officers and senior Civil Officers today discussed various aspects of 1965 Indo-Pak War at the Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh today. They were participating at a seminar on ‘Analysis of 1965 Indo-Pak War’ at Golden Jubilee Hall, PU.
The Seminar was organised by Indian Army’s HQ Western Command in conjunction with PU Department of Defence and National Security Studies as part of commemoration of 50 years of the Indian victory. Homage was also paid to the martyrs of 1965 war with Pakistan.
Former Governor and Defence Secretary to Government of India, Mr Shekhar Dutt, General Officer Commanding (GOC) in Chief, Western Command, Lieutenant General KJ Singh, AVSM, former Ambassador Mr KC Singh, PU Registrar, Col. GS Chadha (Retd.), War Veterans including Lt Gen JS Cheema, VSM, Brigadier Jasbir Singh Hundal (Retd) participated in the seminar.
In his inaugural address, Lt Gen KJ Singh, GOC-in-C Western Command said that 50 years have passed after the 1965 war. It is time to reflect, it is time to take stock and it is time to connect with the younger generation, he added. Briefing about the background of organizing the seminar, Lt Gen KJ Singh said that the war was fought in Punjab, so the western command decided to organize events in Punjab region. He appreciated the Punjab Government for organizing state level commemorative function. Wo Dharti Hi Baanjh Ho Jaayegi, Jahan Veer Na Pooje Jaayenge, he said while paying respects to the martyrs.
Lauding the Panjab University for its academic and research achievements, Lt Gen KJ Singh described PU as ‘the most glamorous University in the western command jurisdiction area’. He also stressed upon organizing more such seminars in temples of higher learning. Through the seminar, we want to take the message to the youth, he added. He informed that efforts were underway to familiarise the youths of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar and other universities with the prowess of Indian Army through such
seminars. 
Former Governor Mr. Shekhar Dutt referred the nuances of National Strategy. He said that the Pakistan Army is continuing to dominate the national strategy of Pakistan Government. They have vested interest to project India-Pakistan division as the best thing to happen to them and they are consistently trying to justify the India-Pak division in 1947, he added. 
Eminent defence scholar and PU Professor, Prof Rakesh Datta spoke on the Geo-political Environment during the 1965 war, wherein India was unable to exploit the geo political advantages and the bias continued against India. The international media misrepresented India and rather supported the Pakistan, he further added. 
A large number of veterans residing in the tri-city also participate in the event and share their experiences and opinion with the present generation.
Lt Gen Kamal Davar, (Retd) critically analysed the Intelligence Aspects and Lt Gen JS Cheema, VSM deliberated on Decision Making for War. Maj Gen BS Grewal, VSM (Retd) brought out the Military Perspective of 1965 Operations and Dr SD Pradhan Former Deputy NSA deliberated upon Foreign Relations and its Impact on Tashkent Agreement. Former Ambassador Mr. KC Singh touched upon the Social Aspects./ (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
