Department of Laws, Panjab University, organises Intra-Department Moot Court Competition

Chandigarh, April 23, 2019: The Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised an Intra-Department Moot Court Competition. The day began with Orientation, draw of lots for the Preliminary rounds and Memorial exchange. A Researcher’s Test based on the facts of the case and relevant statute was conducted side-by-side. The moot problem was based on the Law of Contract.
There were 18 teams in total, each comprising of two speakers and one researcher. Preliminary Round 1 was conducted from 9 am to 10 am. Preliminary Round 2 was from 10:30 am to 11:30 am post which result was compiled and announced giving way to the Quarter Finals. The Semi-final round took place at 3pm. At 5 pm, the Final Round of the Moot Court Competition began.
The Panel of Judges for the Preliminary Rounds and the Quarter Finals comprised of esteemed members of the Academia and experts in the field. The semi-finals was judged by Mr. Rajesh Gaur, Mr. Ashish Gupta, Mr. Pankaj Chugh, Mr. Harinder, Mr. Himanshu Raj and Mr. Anjum Ahmed- all of whom are advocates practising in the High Court of Panjab and Haryana.
The Final Round had a two-judge Bench comprising of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amit Rawal and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Harsimran Singh Sethi of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.
The competition came to a close with the Valedictory function post the final round in the Moot Court Hall of the Department.
Prof. Meenu Paul, Chairperson and Mrs. Anu Chatrath, Dean, Faculty of Law welcomed the guests, encapsulating the profile of the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajiv Sharma.
