Chandigarh October 3, 2019: The Department of Gandhian & Peace Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised a week-long celebration of the Jayanti of Mahatma Gandhi from 23rd September, 2019 to 2ndOctober, 2019.
Dr.Seema Pasricha introduced all the dignitaries to the audience and also informed everybody about the working and achievements of the Department.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Chander Shekhar Talwar, IAS (retd.) started his Special Lecture on the Relevance of Gandhi's Philosophy in the Present Era; with famous Albert Einstein’s quotation Generations to come, it may well-being, will scarce believe that such a man as this one ever in flesh and Blood walked upon the earth. He said World is going against the word Peace and following the path of violence. Now Gandhian philosophy is more relevant if we can follow it in a true sense and said Gandhi is Gandhi. No match at all.

Professor Emanual Nahar, DSW and Director, Centre of Social Exclusive and Inclusive Policy, PU, Chandigarh in his address talks about three paths to be adopted for peace. One is Gandhi’s Economic Philosophy/Principles; second is Decentralization and third is Sarvodaya. He said To Build India we have to adopt Gandhian Philosophy.

Professor Shankarji Jha DUI, officiating Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh in his presidential Address that Do not hurt anybody in any sense. Truth is very important. It is to live the life of reality. He stressed on the implementation of Gandhian philosophy in your daily life and said Every religion has equal value.

The Book Non-Violence in Indian Traditions of Dr. Kiran Chauhan, Post-Doctorate Fellow, Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh was also released.

The Chairperson, Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies & Honorary Director, Gandhi Bhawan Dr. Ashu Pasricha, extended her warm thanks to all the invited guests and the attendees.

On this occasion, the Best Mali Award for the year 2019 was awarded to Sh. Phool Chand. Guest House and Administrative Block, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The appreciation letters given to two NCC Cadets CSM Vishal Sharma and CQMS Sumandeep Kaur for the year 2019. One to Dupinder Singh for Training winning Bhangra Team for Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival, conducted by Panjab University 2019.

The results of the Inter-College/PU Departments Competitive Exam (Subjective) on the Autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi titled, The Story of My Experiments with Truth" and On-The-Spot Drawing/Painting competition were also announced and the students who got Prizes are Yadav, Department of Laws, P. U. (1st Prize). Ashwathi, M. C. M. DAV College, Sector 36, Chandigarh (2nd Prize), Ankush Verma, Deptt. of Gandhian and Peace Studies, PU, Chd (3rd Prize). For the On-The-Spot Drawing/Painting competition, the names of the winners are: Trisha Arora, Sant. Kabir School, Sector 7, Chandigarh (1st Prize), Aakrit Shanna, Chitkara International School, Sector 25, Chandigarh (2nd Prize), Yavinka Dhingra, Bhawan Vidyalaya School, Sector 15, Panchkula (3rd Prize).
