Chandigarh, November 22, 2016: Dr.Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Panjab University (PU) Chandigarh today conducted White Coat Ceremony for the first year BDS and MDS students of batch 2016 at the University Auditorium here today.
White Coat Ceremony is conducted every year at the Institute to educate the fresher students about the responsibilities and expectations from them. The fourth White Coat ceremony marked symbolic joining of students in the noble profession of
Dentistry.
The first lady Dentist of India and PU alumnus, Dr.Vimal Sood handed over the White Coats to the BDS and MDS students of her Alma Mater. Dr.Sood had graduated from the PU Lahore in 1944. Remembering her days at Panjab University, Lahore she advised the students to stay focused and move ahead in life with determination.
Dr. S Mohammad Reza Khalili from the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran expressed his happiness to be part of the event and advised the students to do justice to the profession. Like earlier years, the Institute has a good number of
students from Iran this year.
In his address, Executive Member of the DCI, Dr. Anil Singla emphasized that white coat is a symbolic, non-verbal communication used to express and reaffirm a fundamental belief in a system that society observes. The authority of dress is
serious and purposeful, not social, casual or random.
PU Dean University Instructions, Prof. Dinesh Kumar Gupta mentioned the teachings of Geeta and urged the students to be on the path of righteousness.
Earlier, welcoming the guests the Director of the Institute, Dr. Ashish Jain impressed upon the students the essence of donning the White Coat and the responsibilities that come with it.
The Ceremony was attended by the parents of the students, who with glistening eyes and proud smiles on their faces, watched their children don the white coat, with promises of duty and service.
After receiving their White Coats from the Dignitaries, the students undertook the Dental Oath. One of the proud parents addressed the audience and shared his experience of his daughter’s journey to the dental course. The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Hemant Batra.
