Hyderabad, November 30, 2016: Demonetization, the landmark reform announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the new disruptor in Indian Politics. For many politicians, money power is the lifeline. Cash is king in Indian politics. Payments to workers, wages for people to attend political rallies/meetings, distribution of gifts to lure voters, feeding them etc..on all these candidates/parties splurge money collected from undisclosed sources. Nearly three-quarters of political partys income is collected from undisclosed sources. Demonitisation can be a death knell for political parties and politicians. Prime Minister Modi Is The New Disrupter In Indian Politics said Sanjay Dalmia, Chairman of Dalmia Group of companies, a global business conglomerate and a former Member of Rajya Sabha.
Disruptions have happened in so many fields, but, this the first time we will witness disruption in politics, said Dalmia, doyen of Indian industry, whose group turnover is well over Rs 10,000crore.
While addressing 250 plus business management students of Woxsen School of Business at its campus in the outskirts of the city on Tuesday late evening, Sanjay said decision to demonetize old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes will radically alter the political landscape. It has the potential of cleaning up the monetary system of the country, he said.
India’s unseemly money politics may come to end if the move is implemented properly, he observed.
Answering to a question, if ease of doing business really changed as most of the government’s claim, Dalmia said frankly it is not changed much. Still the red tapism and bureaucracy prevails, unlike governments yell from the rooftop, he said.
Commenting on Indian banking system vis-à-vis in west, the 72years old businessman said, “Our banking system is much more liberal than the west”.
Giving his advice to budding management students, he told them not to benchmark anybody. Instead, you become benchmark for others.
Good leaders take quick decisions. Taking wrong decision is not a sin, but, not taking a decision is a sin, he said. There is no retirement age. Never retire. Keep working until your system works, he told them. Old ways don’t work. Think differently. Don’t limit your learning to text books. Look outside your academics for learning. Develop hunger to learn new things. Think freely, not bound by old, nonfunctional, or limiting structures, rules, or practices think beyond the routine, he told them.
Sanjay Dalmia was invited to speak at the Woxsen Leadership Series on ” Think Big….Think out of the Box”.
The Woxsen leadership series is an initiative by Woxsen to invite industry leaders and leaders from other walks of life to expose students to the latest thoughts in management practice and leadership.
