DEMAND: Safai Karamchari be rights as per labour laws

Ferozepur, December 26, 2012: The Safai Karamchari should be extended the entitled rights and facilities according to labour laws, said Hari Ram Sood, Member, National Commissioner for  Safai Karamcharis, Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, while holding a meeting of district officers of various departments of  police, labour, social security and development, municipal council, panchayats, Cantt board and bank etc. 

In this meeting Gurmail Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Pritam Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) and Lakhwinder Singh, SP (HQ) were also present.

Sood also said to the officers of various departments that the medical check-up of safai karamchari must be got conducted twice in a year. 

He further said, the action against the contractors should be initiated, who pay less wages to the labourers and there should be regular checking of the contractors.  The arrangements for paying the wages to the labourers through banks should also be made and they should also be extended the leave and other benefits as per the labour laws. 

Giving a warning, he said, the departments who are not following the labour laws, a strict action would be initiated against them.
