Ferozepur, December 30, 2012:  The various farmers organisation and political parties have termed the increase of Rs.65 in wheat MSP as mockery with the farmers and  demanded to fix the rate as per Swaminatahan Commission keeping in view the cost on agriculture produce, said Ajaib Singh Khaira, leader BKU(Lakhowal).

Despite giving the slogan  – “Jai Jawan Jai Kissan” the governments from time to time, instead of uplifting the farmers community are being ignored while announcing the price of their produce, said district president Bharti Kissan Union (BKU) , Sukhpal Singh Buttar.  

He further said, the governments should take appropriate steps to save the farmers. 

Condemning the reducing the subsidies, Butter said, the governments should fix the price of the produce by the farmers keeping in the minimum expenditure involved in taking the crops keeping in view the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission.

Holding responsible the Centre for compelling the farmers to commit suicides by the farmers on account heavy debts and frustrated from the way of life they are living, Surinder Singh Bagge Ke Pippal, vice president Yuva Morcha Punjab of BJP said, the Congress government should re-think on fixing of MSP of wheat.  He further said, the Congress government has not kept in view the basic expenses of farmers while fixing the rates of wheat and demanded that minimum Rs.1,800 per quintal rate of wheat should be fixed to save the farmers and coming out of the clutches of loans.

Mohinder Singh Virk, general secretary, Youth Akali Dal said, it is the need of the hour to save the farmers moving on the path of committing suicides.   He further said that the Centre should announce the right value of the farmers’ produce besides giving the subsidies on fertilizer, insecticides and pesticides, diesel and other agriculture inputs.
