Dedicated to 50th Birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Inter- College poetry recitation held at GGN Khalsa College

Ludhiana, November 7, 2019: Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College organised Inter-College poetry recitation competition, dedicated to 550th Birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. This programme was organised as a series of programmes being organised on the 550th ‘Prakash Utsav’ of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The students from 20 colleges participated in the competition and recited various poems in different languages. This programme was organised in the memory of renowned literary Giani Lal Singh Ji. The Students recited the poems on the life, teachings and philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The chief guest on this occasion was the former president of Punjabi Sahit Academy, Professor Gurbhajan Gill. The guest of honour was former professor from Arya College, Professor Parshotam Dass Gupta. The principal of the college, Dr Arvinder Singh welcomed all the guests, judges and students in his opening speech on this auspicious occasion. Addressing the function, principal stressed on the fact that present era students need to inculcate the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji sincerity in their daily life. It’s the need of the hour as the young generation is getting away from their ancestral teachings and culture. The chief on the occasion congratulated principal and whole staff for organising a good poem recitation function for students on Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He said that in this way students would be able to know more about Guru Nanak Dev ji on their 550th birth anniversary. He further praising the college authorities said that GGN Khalsa College has always been keen to bring out hidden talent among students by giving them such platforms at initial stages of their lives, which is a praise worthy thing. In the end of the programme, Honorary General Secretary of GGN Khalsa Educational Council and former Vice Chancellor, GNDU, Dr SP Singh in his address said that they have organised a poem recitation function on the name of renowned literary personality Giani Lal Singh ji is important from certain aspects. With this they would be able to bring out hidden literary talent among the students of various colleges and they would also be able to know more about Guru Nanak Dev ji. This could prove big platform and exposure to them in this direction. The winners of Poetry recitation were Taranjot Kaur of AS College Khanna stood first, second prize goes to Arshjot Kaur of Guru Nanak Khalsa College, third prize to Harman Kaur of Khalsa College. In this programme other important dignitaries who were present includes Dr Jaswinder Singh from PAU, Ludhiana, Dr Tanveer Singh, SCD Goverment College and Anu Puri from BVM School school were the judges on the occasion. Professor Sharanjit Kaur, Prof. Gur[preet Singh and Prof. Mandeep Kaur conducted the event. On this occasion, members of Gujranwala Khalsa education Council Bhagwant Singh, Hardeep Singh, GGNIMT Director Prof. Manjit Singh Chabbra, Chan Jandiavli from UK, famous singer Pali Detwalia.
