Chandigarh, November, 18, 2015: The Education Department, Punjab, has cleared the decks for the promotion of teachers belonging to the JBT/ETT/C&V cadre whose promotions were long overdue. The promotions of the above cadres were on the backburner after the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) came into force. A committee formed to look into the issue had made some recommendations which were accepted by the Education Minister, Punjab, Dr.Daljit Singh Cheema giving a major relief to the teachers.
Stating this, an official spokesman said that as per the recommendations given green light by the Education Minister, the every teacher of this cadre recruited before 3rd September, 2001 is eligible for promotion. Similarly, the teachers of the cadre recruited in between 3rdSeptember 2001 to 23rd August, 2010 in accordance with the rules of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) are also eligible for promotion. He said that the teachers of the cadre recruited after 23rd August 2010 have to pass TET mandatorily to be considered for promotion.
The spokesman further said that after the TET came into force, the promotions of the teachers of these cadres were on hold though many teachers from amongst these had completed the 8 year service period fixed for promotion before TET was implemented. The spokesman also said that Dr. Cheema had constituted a 4 member committee in June 2015 under D.G.S.E. Mr. Pradeep Aggarwal, keeping in view the demands raised by these teachers. The committee members included D.P.I. (Secondary Education) Mr. Balbir Singh Dhol, D.P.I. (Elementary Education) Mr. Harbans Singh Sandhu and O.S.D. (Litigation).
