A debate has been started on the hike in bus fares and motor transport tax in Punjab. PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa has even demanded that these should be rolled back. He has even alleged that the Badals, who hold a 90 per cent stake in passenger transport, would be the major beneficiaries of this hike. Here’s is what common people say:

DEEPAK JALOTA from Phagwara said that the hike in the bus fare will strongly affect common man.

SAHIL KAPOOR from Ludhiana said it is not justified to increase bus fare within short span.

LUCKY MALHAN said the hike in the bus fares was the need of time as there is already increase in the prices of diesel.

DEEPAK ARORA from Jalandhar said it would have been better if the government would have raised the bus fare of special coaches and luxury buses rather than the ordinary buses. The ultimate sufferer will be the common man.

ARUNA BANSAL MALHOTRA from Banga said the government should have refrained from bringing the hike as it will further give rise to inflation.
