Chandigarh, December 29, 2018: The fifth day of the NSS seven days camp was dedicated to Swasth Bharat. The NSS volunteers were taken for a nature walk along with their Programme Officers Dr Anupam Bahri, Ikreet Singh, Manjushri Sharma, Purva Mishra and Gaurav Gaur.
This nature walk started from Panjab University campus to lake at village Dhanas and later-on the students entered to the Botanical Garden at Village Sarangpur. The students were made to understand the importance of flora and fauna around them. This main motive behind this walk was to make the students to understand the importance of physical activities like walking, running etc for keeping themselves fit. In the botanical garden the students were made to see the magnificent work done by the Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration.
The NSS volunteers roamed around and saw the solar panels, wind mills, plants nursery and a water pond made for the migratory birds. There were different kinds of lotus ponds also available in the Botanical Garden at Sarganpur. The students took a round of the garden and enjoyed the different varieties of blooming flowers. They were provided with healthy nutritional refreshments in the form of bananas. Afterwards the students shared their experiences of this visit and one of them said " I was not aware of such a beautiful park in the vicinity of Chandigarh before". Another student said "sometimes... it is difficult to make our home and surroundings clean and green but Chandigarh Botanical garden is a perfect example of cleanliness, greenery and innovation". One can feel the clam and quietness and do introspection at such a lovely place. All the students were of the opinion that in the modern times, when we are becoming the slaves of the technology, we are going away from the mother nature and hence we can’t feel the internal happiness and affection, but this visit was organized to take them a step closer to nature. The day ended with a delicious lunch at Panjab University campus only.
