Day-4 YUVOTSAV-2018 at PU

Chandigarh, December 30, 2018: The fourth day of 34th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival at Panjab University witnessed 29 Universities taking part in the debate held at P.L. Anand Auditorium. The topic for the debate was “Religion based Debate on TV channels is increasing Intolerance in Society”. The questions on Sabarimala issue, Section 377, threat to journalists like Ravish Kumar and Burkha Dutt were raised. The facts related to coverage of communal violence, heating up debates and news turning into noise was taken into consideration by different participants.
The message to hold debate on this topic was to create a sense of respect and compassion to fellow human beings. The participants gave examples of certain channels that put forward news with objectivity and with fair comment.
28Universities took part in the Elocution competition held in the same venue on the topic “Youth for Peace”. Participants in the elocution emphasized on how the youth can bring peace and that will aid in development.
Many students participated for the first time and their excitement knew no bounds. The students said, a healthy debate and discussion can bring in a positive change in the country and it would encourage people to not live in echo chambers with like-minded people but to be open to diverse opinions and beliefs.
24 various Universities participated in the Mime event and 17in the Mimicry competition. The guest of honour of the event was Deepak Kansal, Entrepreneur, Xeam Company. The participants performed very well and connected with audience through emotions and feelings. 27 Universities participated in the skit competition.
26 teams participated in the Rangoli competition on the theme “Lok Utsav”. The aim of the Rangoli competition was to bring out the traditionalism of Rangoli as a medium of expression without anydesigns and equipments. Bright colors were used by the participants depicting various themes of tradition, art form and creativity.
Installation event witnessed 25 Universities participating in the competition held at the Open Air Auditorium, Department of Indian Theatre. The participants used waste material to create installation based on the theme, “Folk Sanskriti”. The participants used materials such as straws, tree branches, clay, broken helmets, chairs and paper plates. They collected scrap from the surrounding for creating installation.
26 Universities participated in the Mehndi Competition at the same venue.
The judges for the competitions of Rangoli, Inallation and Mehndi were Dr. Praveen Sharma, Director, Maha Kaushal Parishad Raipur, Dr. Alok Bhawsar, Prof. and Head, Dept. of Drawing and Painting, Govt. Hamidia Arts Commerce College, Bhopal, M.P. and Sh. Narayan Singh, Freelance Artist, New Delhi.
Western Group Song Competition witnessed 19 Universities participating in the same at Mulk Raj Anand English Auditorium. Keeping in mind the holiday season all around the world, participants performed Christmas carols songs welcoming New Year. The judges for the competition were Rajatabh Banerjee, western music instructor at Pioneer School, New Delhi, Sandeep Malhotra, western music instructor at an art and music venture, Ambition, New Delhi and Ajay Negi, western classical guitarist and instructor at YMCA, New Delhi.
The instruments used included Guitar, Synthesiser, Casio, classical (Spanish) Guitar and Percussion instruments like Cajon and Bass Drum.
The Group Song (Indian) Competition held at the same venue had 19 Universities as participants. The panel of the judges included Prof. Sharangdhar Sathe, Professor and Director Performing Art, Bharti Vidhya Peeth Deemed University, Pune, Dr. Kumar Amrish Chanchal, Assistant Prof., Deptt of Vocal Music, BHU Varanasi and Dr. Rajesh Kelkar, Head, Vocal Music Dept., Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
Dr Baljit Singh Sekhon, Joint Secy, AIU, Dr. Naval Kishore, former DSW and DCDC, Dr. Kamal Arora, Chairman, Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Academy and Industrialist , Mr. Rajive were the special guests of the day.
