Day-2 YUVOTSAV-2018 at PU

Chandigarh, December 28, 2018: The second day of 34th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival at Panjab University began with the event ‘One Act Play’ at the Law Auditorium. This is a two days event i.e., 28th December and 29th December, 2018. The first day saw 12 teams from different Universities participating in the event. The Universities based their acts on different themes from the view of enlightening and awakening the audiences. The plight of the farmers, injustice in rural India, the predicament of love, donation of girls in the temples were some of the themes of the performances of Day 1. Each team comprised of 8-10 participants. The entire law auditorium was filled with emotions which was visible from the eyes of the audience.
The remaining 11 teams for One Act Play are scheduled to perform on December 29, 2018.
The Inter University Folk/Tribal Dances competition was conducted at Indian Theatre Open Air Auditorium which witnessed performance of 16 Universities.
The judges panel for the event included Dr K.C Sinha, Director and Producer of All India Radio, gold medalist in instrument Tabla and associated with PanditBirjuMaharaj; DrVijaya Sharma, International Kathak performer and Head of Department of Dance in Govt. Maharani LaxmiBai Girls College, Bhopal; RaginiShrivastava, gold medalist in Kathak and International Kathak performer.
Punjabi Folk Singer and Dancer PammiBai popularly known for his song Ashke graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
Professor B.S. Ghuman, appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and emphasized on the need and importance of such Youth Fests for promotion of cultural diversity and national integration. David Sampson, Joint Secretary (Youth Affairs), Association of Indian Universities (AIU) said that whenever he goes to Youth Fests, he gets positive and vibrant energy looking at the smiling faces of the students putting their heart and soul in the events. He recited shaayris in response to which students got excited and started asking for ‘One more One more’. IAS Gurloveleen Singh Sidhu, Deputy Commissioner, Gurdaspur& Director Welfare of Scheduled Castes and backward classes recalled the days when he used to participate in such Youth Fests and also recited a poem on Bhagat Singh which made him won poetic recitation competition in the Youth Fest.
The students were judged on the basis of swar/taal, style/dress, theme, content and presentation and were given marks out of 50.
Professor B.S. Ghuman, Vice chancellor of Panjabi University Patiala and PadamShriSurjitPatar, Chairman, Punjab Arts Council were Guest of Honour. Dr. LakhwinderJohal, Secretary General, Punjab Arts Council, Sh. Surinder Sharma, Theatre Artist were also present on the occasion.
Apart from above two events, the day also witnessed competitions on Classical Instrumental Solo(Percussion) with 10 Universities participating in the same, whereas 9 Universities participated in Classical Instrumental Solo(Non-Percussion).
21 Universities participated in Collage Making whereas, 26 Universities participated in the Cartooning event, held at Department of Art, History and Visual Arts.
The preliminary and the final for the Quiz Competition was held at Principal P.L.Anand Auditorium, in which 28 Universities participated out of which 6 have qualified for the final round.
