Jalandhar, November 7, 2014: The DAV National Science Congress was inaugurated here today with great aplomb at the DAVIET campus. The Congress aims at providing a multidisciplinary platform to researchers, academicians and personnel from industry to come up with the solutions facing the society. The Congress stands for commitment of DAVIET to promote quality research in a wide variety of disciplines. The Chief Guest of the Function was Dr. S. K Das, Director, Dr. B.R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar. He was accompanied to the inaugural function by Prof. A.L Sangal, Principal DAVIET.  The Key Note Speaker for the Inaugural  function was Dr. A.K Paul, Chief Scientist, CSIO, Chandigarh. Kamna Raj Aggarwal, Chairman, Engineering Export Promotion Council of India, Northern Region and past Chair CII, Punjab, Dr. Rajneesh Sachdeva, Registrar, Punjab Technical University, Dr. Satish Kapoor, Registrar, DAV University, M.L Aeri, Director, DAV Nursing Institutions and Dr. A.S Arora, Professor SLIET Longowal were the other prominent dignitaries who were present in the inaugural function.
As per the DAV tradition, the function formally opened by invoking the blessings of God Almighty and lighting of the pious lamp of knowledge. It was followed by the DAV song.
In his welcome address, Prof A.L Sangal, Principal, DAVIET, thanked the Chief Guest for sparing his valuable time out of his busy schedule. In his welcome address, he provided a brief overview of the achievements of DAVIET  and the objectives of the National Congress. He highlighted the fact that DAVIET was adjudged the best engineering college by Punjab Technical University. While welcoming the delegates, paper presenters and students to the DAV National Congress, Prof. Sangal, emphasized the fact that modern day life has become very complex and  a monolithic approach towards issues concerning our society won't suffice. The need of the hour is to have an open mind and realize that a multi disciplinary approach, combining knowledge from diverse fields can provide answers to all our problems. He further shared with all present that the response to the Congress has been overwhelming. Researchers and scholars  from leading Universities across the nation like IIT Guwahati, Thapar University, PU Chandigarh, PEC, Chandigarh and NIT Jalandhar have contributed 180 research papers which will be presented in various sessions conducted simultaneously over the span of two days.
Dr. S.K Das, Director, Dr. B.R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, in his address expressed his happiness at the fact that DAVIET has always contributed its bit in promoting cutting edge genuine research in diverse fields of technology. He highlighted the fact that we can tackle the challenges thrown to us by the modern day world only if we have an interdisciplinary approach to problems. He also highlighted the fact that there should be a conjunct between academia and industry so that a sustainable growth model can be developed. He expressed his confidence that the Congress will foster out of box thinking which will result in generation of new intellectual wealth.
Kamna Raj Aggarwal, Chairman, Engineering Export Promotion Council of India, Northern Region and past Chair CII, Punjab in her address made comparison between the work culture in engineering industry in Europe and India. She highlighted the fact that if the academicians remain within their domain then they will not be able to cater to the practical needs of the Industry. What is required is continuous exchange of thoughts between academia and industry.
