Chandigarh, December 31, 2018: Curtains drew to the 5 Days 34th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival hosted by Panjab University(PU) with the prize distribution function held here today. Sh.Rana K.P Singh, Hon’ble Speaker, Punjab Legislative Assembly was the Chief Guest of the occasion.
Speaker, while appreciating the efforts of Prof.Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor and his team in organizing such a large event at the Campus. He said that Youth Festivals have a special place in the hearts of students. He referred to the youth as the future of the nation. He informed that one generation of India helped in the freedom of nation, so that today’s generation can reap the benefit of Independence. At that time, there were no educational institutions, no canals for irrigation, no hospitals, no transport and no other facilities for day to day life. The second generation made all these facilities available to the citizens of India. He added that now is the time of the youth who have to take the nation to greater heights and create a special place in the world. The youth is unstoppable and can lead the country to achieve excellence in all spheres, he added.
The Chandigarh University, Gharuan, won the overall trophy of the Youth Festival, whereas, GNDU, Amritsar, is the Ist Runner Up and Panjab University, Chandigarh is the IInd Runner Up. In the mega event, 35 Universities of the North Zone with more than 1000 students participated in the same. There were 110 Directors/ Teachers, 180 accompanists and 24 judges as part of the 5 days event. It is fore the first time in the history of Youth Fest that PU has won the trophy. The three winners each of 27 events were presented trophies along with the consolation prizes. All Team Managers along with officials of the core committee of Youth Fest were honoured.
PU VC in his address, expressed gratitude towards Association of Indian Universities(AIU), New Delhi for giving the opportunity to PU for hosting YUVOTSAV-2018. He added that this festival was a showcase of national integration and congratulated each team for particpating in the same.
Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Director, Youth Welfare, PU in his address said that Youth Festival is either to win or to learn experiences of life. There is no loser in these competitions. He urged the youth to be strong in all circumstances and hoped that each one of the participant will take home dream from this platform to reach greater heights in their lives.
Earlier, Dr. Gurvinderjit Kaur, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, appreciated the arrangements made by PU for the teams staying at the PU Campus during the Youth Fest.
