CUHP Conducts Orientation Programme for New Students of PG Programmes

Dharamsala, August 1, 2013: Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) conducted an orientation programme for newly admitted students of the PG Programmes for the academic year 2013-14 at the conference hall of the Temporary Academic Block of the University at Shahpur (near Dharamsala ) on Thursday.

Interacting with the students and faculty members of CUHP during the orientation programme, Vice Chancellor Prof. Furqan Qamar urged them not to get constrained by the lack of resources to achieve the goals in one’s life. “Success can be achieved only through dedication and perseverance. Ninety percent of the successful people are those who rose through the challenges and achieved their destination”, he said.

Talking about the vision of the university, he said that role of the university is not to market degrees but to provide opportunity to the students to gain theoretical and practical knowledge and make them responsible citizens of the country. “Education should enable the students to make conscious decisions of their life and be responsible about their decisions”, he said.

Addressing the students, Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yoginder Singh Verma said that degrees are just the passport to enter into an institution or profession but only with knowledge we can understand the society in a better way. “Degrees are not just for placement in a job, but for the right placement in life”, he said. “In CUHP, the student centric, choice based system helps the students to get knowledge from more than a single discipline.” he added.

Dean Student Welfare, Prof. H. R. Sharma proposed the vote of thanks. During the orientation programmes, newly enrolled students were also addressed by the Deans of schools, Heads of departments and the faculty members of the university.

Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Governor of Nagaland will address the newly admitted students in the PG Programmes tomorrow as part of the orientation programme. He is the former Director of Central Bureau of Investigation and former Director General of Himachal Pradesh police.

Central University of Himachal Pradesh was established in 2010 as per Central Universities Act, 2009. University has introduced comprehensive choice based credit system largely on the lines of the best universities of the world.
