Jalandhar, October 3, 2019: With this objective, a national seminar on “Indian Economic Development: Challenges and Opportunities” was organized at CT Group of Institutions, Maqsudan campus. The Keynote Speaker for the day was Dr.Ranjit Singh Ghuman, Professor, CRRID, Chandigarh and Ahsanul Haq, President, Jalandhar Management Association remained the Featured Speaker.
Charanjit Singh Channi, Chairman CT Group and Manbir Singh, Managing Director were among the major dignitaries present. Delegates from reputed institutions attended this vibrant seminar.
Dr.Ghuman brought into illumination the pace of economic growth, as how the Indian economy positively departed from the growth rate of 0.9% at the onset of independent India to 8.26% in the previous decade and eventually ending with the rate of 5.8%, being the lowest in previous twenty quarters. He said, “Transforming rural economy is a huge challenge in contemporary India as 68% of the population residing in the rural India. During 1950’s, population growth rate was 2% whereas per capita income growth rate rose to 1.9% as compare to pre independence era. Actual growth of economy depends upon Consumption Led Growth Model.”
He also quoted the importance of Make in India along with Consumption Led Growth model for achieving Government target of India to be a $5 trillion economy by 2024-2025.
In his session, Ahsanul Haq stressed on entrepreneurship as the need of the hour which can better contribute to the development of Indian economy than the service sector.
There is need to propel the unorganised sector as 94% of the population engaged in this sector, contributing 45% share to GDP.
