CROSS BORDER SMUGGLING: Heroin worth Rs.20-Cr seized

Ferozepur, November 13, 2012: In less than a week’s time, under the special campaign started against unscrupulous persons and drug smugglers, the Ferozepur police have got success in a major haul of narcotics, with the seizure of 4 Kg heroin worth Rs.20 crore in the international market from international smuggler on Tuesday.

It is pertinent to mention that in joint operation of police and counter intelligence wing Jalandhar, a consignment of heroin having value in the international market of Rs.60 crore had been recovered on November 7.

Giving details to the media persons, SSP Varinder Pal Singh said, “During the routine patrolling and checking of suspicious nature persons under the supervision of Raghbir Singh Sandhu, SP (Detective), a police team headed by Gurbhej Singh, CIA Staff, Ferozepur, at the special nakabandi at Ghulam Hussain Wala, on link road Madhre, just ahead of railway station Hussain Wala, one persons moving camouflaging himself under blanket was noticed.

Adding, he said,” On seeing the police party, he tried to move back but was nabbed with the help of the police team, who identified himself as Jagwinder Singh son of Harbhajan Singh resident of Naushera Dhala falling under Sarai Amant Khan police station of district Tarn Taran.  On being searched, four packets of heroin in plastic bag, of one kg each, were recovered from him, worth Rs.20 crore values in the international market”.

A case under NDPS Act has been registered against Jagwinder Singh under sections 21, 29, 61, 85 at Sadar police station, Ferozepur. 

During the preliminary investigation, Jagwinder Singh disclosed that this heroin consignment had been arranged from Pakistan and this was to be further delivered to the smugglers for the next destination.

More clues are expected during the investigation which would help to reach the smugglers, SSP added.
