Ludhiana, April 2, 2018: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has expressed solidarity with the Dalit organizations in their protest against the changes in the SC/ST Act.
In a statement released here today, Com D P Maur, Secretary, CPI District Ludhiana, Dr Arun Mitra and Com Chamkaur Singh, Assistant Secretaries, Com Ramesh Rattan – City Secretary and Com Gurnam Sidhu – Assistant City Secretary said that the CPI is against any dilution in the Act.
“In our constitution special privileges have been granted to the socially, culturally and economically backward sections of the society. Despite this the caste bias against the so called lower castes exists in the society. Their participation in the decision making bodies is still not proportionate to their population and large section among them still lives in abject poverty.” they said.
Further, they sad in the past four years since the present BJP government has come to power, incidents of violence against Dalits have increased and such criminal elements have been let loose. Any dilution in the act will further marginalize them.
“CPI is for uplift of all the economically weaker sections in the society”, they said, adding, “The economic policies of total privatization have already started affecting the weaker sections adversely.”
