Jalandhar, November 18, 2017: Army‘s Corps of Engineers, also called Sappers celebrated its 237th foundation day on 18th Nov 2017. On this occasion, a wreath-laying ceremony to pay tribute to martyrs was organised at Vajra Shaurya Sthal. Brigadier Sunil Kumar Grover, Chief Engineer of Vajra Corps along with a number of serving and retired Sappers paid their tributes.
Vajra Sappers have been on the forefront for the development of border areas with better road connectivity and improved infrastructure for the populace. In the hinterland, they have worked tirelessly to improve the living conditions of military personnel.
In addition to providing combat engineering support during war and development of infrastructure during peace, the Corps of Engineers has rendered yeoman’s service to the nation and abroad in aid to civil authorities during natural calamities. Their rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations during Kashmir floods, Nepal earthquake and Badrinath floods further reinforced their versatility and omnipresence and truly epitomize their motto of “Sarvatra”.
Engineers is one of the oldest Combat support arm of the Army and consists of four pillars --- Combat Engineer, Military Engineering Service, Border Roads Organisation and Military Survey.
