Jalandhar, November 18, 2012: A two day Zonal Level Legal Literacy Youth Festival was organised by Punjab State Legal Services Authority through District Legal Services Authority, Jalandhar at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar from November16 to 17, concluded late last evening. 

As many as over 200 participants from eight districts  from Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar of various colleges of the Jalandhar zone participated.

The final day the competitions were presided over by Justice S.S. Saron, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court and Justice Rajesh Bindal, Judge of the Punjab and High Court was the Guest of Honour.

During the finals,  eight events were performed involving, Documentary, Skits, Poetry, Declamation contests, Power Point Presentation, Slogan Writing, Poster Making and Photography on the topics of social evils like dowry, female foeticide, child labour, domestic violence etc.

Addressing the audience, Justice S. S. Saron, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court exhorted  the students to help and to combat eradicating social evils from the society. He also appreciated the standard of performances and congratulated the winners.

Justice Rajesh Bindal, Guest of Honour, while praising the performances, pleaded that  each one out of us should be  self disciplined for making of better society. He felt concern over the excess use of liquor and practice of female foeticite in Punjab. He said such type of social evils should be root out at the grass root level and it is the youth they should come forward over this issue.

The Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Jalandhar, Tejinderbir Singh, Chief Judicial Magistrate, who is the Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Jalandhar, while welcoming the participants, educated the audience about National Legal Literacy Mission and the concept of free legal aid. He informed about the ways and grounds for receiving free legal aid. He also informed about the benefits of Lok Adalats   and made clear that as to how the concept of Lok Adalat fruitful in the long run after settling the long pending cases in the Courts out of the Court and get the same settled by the Lok Adalat. The order of the Lok Adalat is final and there is no appeal, parties live a very peaceful life in future.

The District and Sessions Judge-Cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Jalandhar, while thanking the High Court Judges, participants and organizers highlighted the role of Legal Services Authority for getting Justice free of cost.

The function, apart from all the Judicial Officers of Jalandhar Division, was also attended by R.K. Singla, Civil Judge Senior Division-Cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Hoshiarpur, G.S. Dhillon, Civil Judge Senior Division-Cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Gurdaspur, Arun Aggarwal Civil Judge Senior Division-Cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar, A.S. Shergill Civil Judge Senior Division-Cum-Additional Member Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh, G.S. Pelia President District Bar Association, Jalandhar and other senior officers of Jalandhar.

The winners of eight events would now compete at the State Level Legal Literacy Youth Festival at Ludhiana.
