Ludhiana, January 6, 2013: The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (Independent Charge) Manish Tewari has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab. Addressing a large gathering at village Galib Kalan after laying the foundation stone of a 7.6 Kms long link road Tewari said that the law and order situation has reached such a grave situation in the state that the Akali workers attacked a senior police officer in Ludhiana a couple of days ago.

He said that the law enforcing machinery is so much intimidated and threatened that the badly injured senior police officer didn’t even dare to lodge an FIR regarding attack on him by the leader of the ruling Party.

Tewari said that this has happened a few weeks after a police officer was gunned down by an Akali leader in Amritsar, adding it shows that even the police personnel are not safe in Punjab.

The minister said that by making false promises, the SAD-BJP combined succeeded in misguiding the masses in the last assembly elections, but now all sections of the society especially the farmers, labourers, employees and the youths are absolutely disillusioned with the Punjab Government.

Tewari said that the situation of sand mafia had gone to such a sad state the even the Supreme Court had to intervene to ban illegal mining in Punjab.

The link road from Kokri Kalan via Galib Kalan upto the district boundary is being built at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.62 crore and will benefit about one dozen villages falling on the route for smooth and uninterrupted flow of traffic and goods.

Earlier, Manish Tewari laid the foundation stone for a 17.64 kms-long-road at Lakha, which will be built at an estimated cost of over Rs. 11.82 crore.

Tewari has been instrumental in getting five important roads being built in the Ludhiana district under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna from the UPA Government, covering a length of over 61 km with the combined cost of Rs. 41 crore in the district.

Besides, Tewari, former State Ministers Isher Singh Meharban, Malkit Singh Dakha, senior Congress leaders Pawan Dewan, Major Singh Bhaini and Darshan Singh Lakha were also addressed these functions.

Tewari also paid obeisance at Sri Guru Nanak Darbar, village Jhande, where Sant Sri Rampaul honoured Tewari with a Siropa (Robe of honour).
