COMMISSION APPEALS TO PUNJAB GOVERNMENT FOR SCRAPPING LOANS OF DECEASED BORROWERS

Chandigarh, May 31, 2017: The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has appealed the State Government to scrap the loans availed from the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation by the borrowers hailing from SC category who have passed away.

Divulging this, the Chairman of the commission Mr. Rajesh Bagha said that it has been decided in a meeting of the commission that the remaining loan amount should not be recovered from the families of those borrowers who have passed away till 31-05-2017.

He further said that till 31st May, 2017 there are 491 borrowers in total and an amount to the tune of Rs. 39202688 is due on them, but these families are unable to repay this amount owing to their poor financial conditions.

The commission also appealed the state government to formulate a comprehensive policy in order to ensure the waiving of loan availed by a borrower in case he/she passes away.

Among those also present included Senior Vice Chairman of the Commission Mr. Raj Bahadur Singh, Mrs. Bharti Kennedy, Mr. Gian Chand, Mr. Prabhdayal, Mr. Raj Kumar Hans, Mr. Tarsem Singh and Mr. Darshan Singh (All ex-officio members).
