Colourful start of YUVOSTAV-2018 at PU

Chandigarh, December 27, 2018: ‘Youth has the power to change anything and can be instrumental in making country free from corruption, unemployment, poverty and drug free society’ said Sh. Manpreet Singh Badal, Hon’ble Finance & Planning Minister, Government of Punjab, during his inaugural address at the 34th North Zone Inter University Youth Festival, YUVOSTAV-2018 at Panjab University, here today.
Hon’ble Minister urged the youth to be a good human being which is important in making India a super power one day. He took commitment from the youth, who are the next generation of the country, to join hands in changing the fate of the country irrespective of language, creed, colour, caste and religion in making India as one of the greatest country of the world.
The Panjab University hosted the event in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities (AIU) New Delhi, which will be on till 31st December, 2018 consisting of 27 events spread over 5 Venues in the Campus. More than 1300 students from 35 Universities of the Northern Region of the country with a contingent of 40 each, are participating in this festival. The fest is dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Sh. David Sampson, Joint Secretary, Youth Affairs, AIU in his address said that Inter University Youth Fest is a saga, katha of the Unifest family which is the biggest festival in the entire world. He further informed that the Youth Festival has come a long way since 1985 which was started with the objective of spreading love, peace and joy to the entire country.
Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions and officiating Vice Chancellor, PU in his address talked in details about close relationship between culture and value. He also talked about domain of aesthetics i.e. Sahitya (Literature), Sangeet (Music) and Kala (Arts). He stressed that right from the Vedic period down to the writings of modern times such as Ramayana, Mahabaharta and the successive literary texts reveal the cultural aspects that are designed for inculcating strong moral values in the people.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Director, Youth Welfare, PU said that participation in youth fest is more important than the trophies. It helps in personality development. He urged the youth to groom their personality in such a way so that they shine like a sun.
The day started with the cultural procession before the inaugural function, which started from the Department of Sports and culminated at the Law Auditorium, PU. The contingents lead by were in their best attire carrying the flag of their respective University. Each contingent gave 2 minutes cultural performance outside the Law Auditorium where the Chief Guest along with Senior officials of AIU and PU officials were present.
PU Fellows, Deans, Faculty, senior officials, staff and students were present on the occasion along with the participants of the festival.
