Ludhiana, September 3, 2016:His excellency Acharya Dev Vrat, Governor of Himachal Pradesh today inaugurated Shri Rattan Chand Oswal Memorial Computer Centre at Nishkam Vidya Mandir School, EWS Colony on Chandigarh Road, here today. He was accompanied by Mr SP Oswal, Chairman, Vardhman Group of Companies.
Several dignitaries and guests along with a large number of children, their parents and volunteers of Nishkam Sewa Ashram, which runs this slum school were also present on the occasion. This school has more than 1400 children from poor and marginal families living in EWS Colony, here.
Shri Rattan Chand Oswal Memorial Computer Centre has been opened in the memory of father of Mr SP Oswal under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by the Vardhman Group of Companies. This computer centre would help the students to learn computers and would also give them an opportunity to learn several courses through this digital medium. The company has also donated a sound proof generator set, water coolers, fans and painted the complete building at a cost of around Rs 20 lakh.
While speaking on the occasion, Acharya Dev Vrat, who is himself an educationist, expressed satisfaction on seeing that several NGO's as well as companies are working in the field of education under the CSR initiative. He emphasised that all of us should make collective efforts in the field of education so that each and every child is educated. He said that education is very important for the growth of each and every person and computer education has become more like a prerequisite if the child wants to compete globally. He also congratulated Nishkam Sewa Ashram, that has been working in various fields.
Mr SP Oswal assured the Nishkam Sewa Ashram that he would continue to contribute more for their social causes.
Swami Sarwan Kumar, head of Nishkam Sewa Ashram informed that his organisation runs six such schools in the city where more than 4,000 students are studying. The NGO also runs a Bal Ashram, an Adoption Agency, Old Age Home, Hospital, ISO certified computer centres and fashion and sewing centres.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board Chairman Mr Santa Singh Umedpuri, PSIEC Chairman Mr Shakti Sharma, Senior Deputy Mayor Mrs Sunita Aggarwal, Deputy Mayor Mr RD Sharma, former BJP District President Mr Parveen Bansal, Mr Rakesh Jain, Mr JP Sharma, besides several others.
