Hyderabad: City's elite businesswomen, the members of FICCI Ladies Organisation(FLO), had a different kind of an interactive session on December 16. It was a session on "Human are not for sale" by the 67 years old Nepalese woman who has been fighting against human trafficking, sex slavery.

Organized by FLO Hyderabad Chapter 100 plus members have gathered to listen to her.

Moderated by Padma Rajgopal, Chairperson of FLO, Hyderabad Chapter, she said, Anuradha Koirala is the living angel. I was anxiously looking forward to hearing her story. We persuaded her for one year to get her time to bring her here. It moved me when I first heard about her, Padma informed.

Ms. Koirala belongs the influential ‘Koirala’ political family in Nepal. Three people from that family have become Prime Ministers of the Nepal. But, she is now separated from her husband. She is also distantly related to film actress Manisha Koirala.

Ms. Koirala is the greatest inspiration and hopes to many young girls in Nepal. I have high admiration for her untiring Crusade to stop sexual violence and trafficking of young illiterate girls and women. She is the greatest hope for a whole generation of exploited and trafficked women in Nepal and India, Padma informed in her welcome address.

"I want a society free of human trafficking," says Anuradha Koirala, the founder of Maiti Nepal. Maiti Nepal is a shelter and home for Nepali girls and women who are victims of domestic violence, trafficking, and sexual exploitation.

My future plan is to close my organization, Maiti Nepal, which I founded, she declared. Because, my dream is to see the end of the human trafficking, which is not possible to remove, but, atleast can be minimized, she said.

People thought I was prostitute, since I was working to rescue prostitutes. My family was not dare enough to disclose then that I was working to rescue girls from brothels. Today, because of what we have achieved their perception has changed. And they are know by my name, she informed.

Ms. Anuradha Koirala, a globe trotter, is a recipient of CNN Heroes Award in the USA. She was introduced by Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher on the stage. Koirala received USD 100,000 to continue her work with Maiti Nepal, in addition to USD 25,000 as a token of appreciation from CNN

She is the Social Activist and the Founder, Director of MAITI Nepal, a non-profit organization in Nepal, dedicated to helping victims of sex trafficking. Maiti Nepal has been a refuge for women rescued from the brothels in India. Anuradha Koirala and her organization, till 2011, have helped rescue and rehabilitate more than 12,000 women and girls.

Through her organization, the daughter of an Indian Army Officer, Anuradha helped rescue and rehabilitate thousands of Nepali girls and prevented 45,000 children and women from being trafficked at the Indian-Nepal border since 1993. Over 1,200 offenders convicted in a period of 12 years through the joint efforts of Maiti Nepal and the police. She is the living angel to many.

She always lived with dangers. All throughout the existence of Maiti Nepal, Koirala has stayed exposed to the terrible dangers that take refuge in this billion dollar market. "Danger is always there. But if you feel there is danger and you don't work then who will work. Someone has to do the job." , she explains.

The convicts phone me from jail and threaten us that 'we know where you are, where your son is, what your
daughter is doing, where they are educated, and we can do anything' and I say, 'ok try your luck.'", she informs.

It was in 1990 when Nepal had acquired democracy; Koirala recalls how every morning she would visit the famous Hindu temple of Pashupatinath in Kathmandu. On the extensive grounds of Pashupatinath, Koirala would notice women begging with their children. "They were healthy. Slowly I started talking to them and got to know that they were survivors of one or other kind violence."

"I asked them if they wanted to work and they said 'who will give us work.'" At this point in her life, Koirala, though not legally separate, was living away from her husband. With a monthly salary of only Rupees 7000), Koirala had taken charge of not only providing a livelihood to eight women but was also responsible for the education and nurturing of her son who was very young.

Mother Teresa has always been my largest source of inspiration, says from English Teacher.

Anuradha Koirala has been awarded 38 national and international awards in recognition of her courageous acts and achievements furthering the cause of children's and women's rights.

It is her maiden visit to the city. Her crusade touched hearts of every member of the audience.

She is distantly related to film actress Manisha Koirala

Separated from her husband, Dinesh Prasad Koirala, she has a son, Manish Koirala. Most of the time her son felt that she was giving more time for her cause than taking care of him. Manish subsequently involved in her social work.

Anuradha's organization raids brothels of India patrols India-Nepal border to rescue and save girls/women from trafficking. She is a real hero in the true sense.
