CNE HELD ON LATEST ADVANCES IN RENAL NUTRITION

Ludhiana, December 15, 2018: The Department of Dietetics organized 4th CNE (Continuing Nutrition Education) in collaboration with the Department of Nephrology, Dayanand Medical College & Hospital on Latest Advances in Renal Nutrition to raise awareness about the importance of Nutrition to avoid the approaching risks of healthy kidneys. Dt.Shilpa Joshi from Mumbai, Dr.Bhuvaneshwari Shankar from Chennai & Dt.Zamurrud M.Patel from Mumbai shared their experience with delegates. In this event more than 225, Dieticians/ Dietetics students from various institutes from all over Punjab, Haryana, Jammu Kashmir, Himachal, & Chandigarh participated.

The Chief Guest on this occasion was Secretary DMCH, Managing society Sh. Prem Kumar Gupta, graced the event and endorsed the concern for renal care. Sh. Prem Kumar Gupta expressed his views about the latest advancements in the field of nutrition and dietetics for various health benefits. He also told about the State of the art Dietary department of DMCH.

Dr. Sandeep Puri, Principal DMCH in his address suggested that nutrition as a baseline for the body to play a fundamental role in achieving overall health and in special reference to Kidney as the risk of renal disease is increasing day by day and obesity is baseline of all the disease.

Dean Dr. Rajoo Singh Chhina & Organizing Chairman urged to adopt the use of antibiotics appropriately to secure good health without causing any hazard to the kidney and the other vital organs. He further appealed to avoid self-medication and suggested to adopt fiber rich food, whole cereal and pulses, fruits and vegetables etc. rather than pills, powders etc.

Dr. Vikas Makkar, Professor & Head, Department of Nephrology DMCH, addressed the audience about how the renal impairment occurs due to poor control of hypertension and diabetes and is the reason we have conducted this conference to create awareness among the dietitians about the renal parameters which should not be ignored.

Senior dietitian Department of Dietetics Shaveta Batta, RD & Organizing Secretary suggested "little modification in lifestyle can help to maintain the healthy body. She further added “diet plays a key role in maintaining the good nutrition in pre and post kidney transplant to stop further damage to the kidney. She also discussed the importance of fluid, electrolytic balance and the ways to maintain it. She insisted the importance of adopting healthy nutrition regime to look better, think better and perform better"
