CME on ‘Role of surgery in oncology’ held at Sirhind
Sirhind (Fatehgarh Sahib), January 13, 2019: The medical fraternity from Sirhind, Khanna and Mandi Gobindgarh attended an Ivy Hospital, Mohali’s continue medical education (CME) program on ‘Role of Surgery in Oncology & Cancer Screening’ at Sirhind today. The CME was organized in association of IMA, Fatehgarh Sahib. Among others, Dr Amarpreet Singh Bawa and Dr Nitin Bither, president and general secretary of IMA respectively were also presented during occasion. During CME , Dr Shubh Mahindru, consultant- Onco Surgery talked about the role of advanced surgery required for cancer management. He discussed for the complete surgical removal of tumour for cure besides timely surgical interventional to achieve a complete cure. Dr Chitresh Aggarwal, consultant-Medical Oncology discussed about the cancer screening . While stressing upon the importance of timely screening , he said that how ignoring early symptoms could be harmful in timely detection and treatment of cancer cure. He said further that cancer in nowadays is becoming a very common health problem. If detected early , cure can be achieved. The common symptoms of cancer like hoarseness or change in voice , difficulty in swallowing, white or red patches in oval cavity, painless hand lump in breast, excessive bleeding after menopause, change in bowel or bladder habit are needed to be screened at the earliest, so that this disease can be diagnosed at early stage and cure can be offered, asserted Dr Aggarwal. In our country , most patients come at later stages of diseases because of many factors like lack of basic medical facilities at local hospitals, illiteracy, lack of awareness and stigma of cancer being as incurable disease said Dr Mahindru adding even in stage 4 cancer , duration of symptoms , disease control and quality of life are important factors and with treatment , all this can be achieved.
