CME on Nephrology being held at DMCH, Ludhiana on Saturday.

Ludhiana, September 27, 2014: A continuing medical education (CME) on Nephrology was held today in Dumra Auditorium, DMCH, Ludhiana. Eminent nephrologists, nephropathologists and surgeons from across the country delivered lectures during the CME.
Dr JS Sandhu (Prof.& Head of Nephrology) extended warm welcome to the dignitaries and participating delegates present on the occasion. The CME was formally inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Prem Kumar Gupta. Also present on the occasion were Vice Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, Medical Superintendents  Dr Sandeep Sharma and Dr Ashwani Chaudhary.
In his address, Dr JS Sandhu (Prof & Head of Nephrology) that Chronic Kidney Disease has become a major public health problem and is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in India and other developing nations. The purpose of organising this CME is to update the participating delegates about advancements in the treatment and management of CKD.  
The CME began with lecture on ‘Advances in Nephrology’ by Dr Vinay Sakhuja from Chandigarh followed by lecture on ‘Definition & Burden of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)’ and ‘Management of Hyperphosphatemia’ by Dr KL Gupta amd Dr RK Sharma respectively.
Dr PP Varma from New Delhi  spoke on ‘New Therapeutic strategies of anemia in CKD’.
Dr HS Kohli, in his lecture, highlighted in the topic of ‘Diabetic Nephropathy’
Diabetic kidney disease, or diabetic nephropathy, is a complication of type 1 or type 2 diabetes caused by damage to the kidneys' delicate filtering system. If you have diabetic nephropathy, it's very important for you to have your kidney function tested and monitored to prevent it from worsening and reduce your risk of heart disease.
Other topics covered during CME include ‘Hemodialysis in the elderly’, ‘Pediatrics aspects of CKD’, ‘Peritoneal Dialysis’, ‘Banff Classification Update’ and ‘Kidney Transplantation in sensitized recipient ’ by various guest speakers.
The CME got concluded with a proposed vote of thanks to all the dignitaries and participating delegates.
