CME on Critical Care Nephrology held at DMCH

Ludhiana, January 27, 2019: Department of Cardiac Anesthesia & Intensive Care (Hero DMC Heart Institute) & Department of Nephrology today organized a CME on Critical Care Nephrology. The theme of this meeting was ‘Acute Kidney Injury: Challenges in ICU’ and was conducted in Dumra Auditorium.

The CME was formally inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta, Vice-Principal & Chief Cardiologist- Dr GS Wander, Medical Superintendent Dr Sandeep Sharma and Dr Bishav Mohan present on the function.

Addressing the participants, Sh Prem Kumar Gupta said DMCH is committed not only to provide best medical care but to create awareness & update the knowledge of doctors working with serious patients.

Dr GS Wander said that DMCH is organizing these CMEs regularly for last 3 years. He added, the elderly patient admitting to ICU put more challenge in managing renal failure & recent therapies definitely provide better treatment options in these patients.

Organizing Chairman-Dr Vikas Makkar extended warm welcome to the dignitaries and participating delegates present on the occasion. In his address, Dr Makkar said that the purpose of organizing this CME is to discuss and create awareness about Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in ICU, its prevention and state-of-the-art information pertinent to the management of AKI in critically ill patients.

Organizing Secretary-Dr Vivek Gupta said that Acute Kidney Injury is a common problem in critically ill patients admitted in ICU. The present CME is designed for physicians caring for the critically ill, including Critical Care physicians, pulmonary medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, anaesthesia and internal medicine.

During the CME, experts from the specialties’ of nephrology, critical care & medicine update the current

practices on the identification, prevention and management of renal failure, which is commonly encountered in critically ill patients in ICU. He said Indian society of critical care medicine (ISCCM) encourages these events to improve the multidisciplinary care in ICU.

The CME was attended by doctors from various specialties including critical care, medicine, anesthesia, medicine, nephrology, pediatrics & emergency medicine. The CME will definitely help to improve the ICU management of acute kidney injury, added Dr Vivek Gupta.

The faculty from various specialties from different part of the country expressed their views and shared their experiences. That included Dr Valentine Lobo Pune, Dr Deepak Bhalla New Delhi, as Nephrologist, Dr Sudha Ekambaram Chennai & Dr GS Dhooria from DMC, Ludhiana as Paediatic Nephrologist, Dr Ashish Bhalla Chandigarh Professor Emergency Medicine, and Dr Deepak Govil and Dr Ranajit Chatterjee as critical care specialist New Delhi were the prominent speakers.

The CME included the lectures, panel discussion and case based discussion to make it more interactive. The CME was attended by more than 100 delegates.
