Ludhiana, July 27, 2018: In the present day scenario where animal rights are very important, CMC, Ludhiana conducted a one day CME, “Modernising Medical Education: Replacing Animal Use with Superior Simulation Technologies”.
The CME is being organised by Department of Pharmacology and is supported by Peta India. Dr Jeyaraj Pandian, Principal, CMC, Ludhiana, in his welcome address, appreciated the efforts of resource person, Peta, India and all delegates in collaborating to modernise medical education by superior simulations.
Dr. William Bhatti, Director, CMC, Ludhiana and Chief Guest on the occasion highlighted the role of designing innovative simulations in medical education in training of medical graduates at CMC. Dr. Dinesh Badyal, Organising Secretary, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology and Professor in Department of Medical education informed that more than 140 delegates from various medical & dental colleges and health systems are participating. Dr. Badyal added that when movies like “Avatar“ has taken simulations to the highest level, it is time that we start adopting these techniques for better training of doctors so that they can practice on simulations like artificial arms, computer based simulation and mannequins before actually doing it on patients.
This will be a great effort to protect animal as well as human rights and CMC is collaborating with National and International institutes to develop simulations. Dr.Rohit Bhatia, Science Policy advisor, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India added that superior simulations like video animations in teaching and procedures training will be part of training in CME being conducted by experts from CMC, PGI, Chandigarh; Maulana Azam Medical College, New Delhi; Government Medical College and Hospital GMC, Chandigarh; Sri Guru Ram Das Institute Of Medical Sciences & Research (SGRDIMS), Amritsar; Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Jalandhar; Medimation Animations, Mumbai and Peta India. Video animations will be provided to all participants. Dr. Manoj Sobti, Member, Punjab Medical Council appreciated the efforts of CMC and added that CME has been awarded 4 credit hours by council. Dr Anil Luther, Medical Superintendent, CMC, Ludhiana; Dr. Gagandeep Kwatra, scientific committee incharge, Dr. Gaurav Gulrez, Joint organising Secretary and Dr. Madhulika Peter Samuel, Coordinator poster session were also present on the occasion.
