SL Bansal, Chairman and Managing Director of Oriental Bank of Commerce visited interacting with the media persons at Ludhiana on Tuesday.

Ludhiana, February 12, 2013: S.L. Bansal, Chairman and Managing Director of Oriental Bank of Commerce visited today Ludhiana Region of the Bank. 

During his visit, he met with the top industrialists of the city and held a meeting with all the Branch Incumbents of Ludhiana Region of the Bank.

Interacting with the media persons, Bansal told that Oriental Bank of Commerce was expected to reach an important milestone of Rs.3,00,000 crore business by March-end this year. 

Further, he told that the Bank presently had a Branch Network of 1956 Branches, 1 Extension Counter and 1,366 ATMs all over the country and a total customer base of more than 1.91 crore.  During the current financial year, Bank had opened 3 new Regional Offices at Meerut and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Jodhpur in Rajasthan.  “With this, the Bank has a total of 33 Regional Offices across the country”, he said. 

He revealed that Bank planned to reach 2,000 Branches by March  31, 2013.

About the bank’s business in Punjab, he told that the Bank had a network of 356 Branches and 209 ATMs covering all the 22 districts of Punjab.  Besides, the Bank had 6 Regional Offices overseeing the functioning of these branches, he said adding Bank’s total business in Punjab was Rs.29,187 crore (Deposits Rs.16940 crore and Advances Rs.12247 crore).

Asked about giving some relaxation in home loans to give a boost to the real estate business in the country, he told that the real estate itself should take a few initiatives to overcome the situation. He suggested that the real estate companies should ensure timely deliveries with reasonable profit margins and bring more transparency in the larger interest of the customers.

It may be mentioned here that Bansal assumed charge of Oriental Bank of Commerce as Chairman and Managing Director on 1st March, 2012.  He is an astute banker of high repute and has vast experience in all spheres of banking.  He started his banking career in 1975 as a Probationary Officer in Union Bank of India and was promoted as General Manager in 2007.  During his career spanning over 38 years in the banking industry, Bansal headed  various Regions of Union Bank of India, viz., Ranchi (Jharkhand), Ahmedabad, Jalandhar and Bank’s Eastern Zone consisting of West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand and North Eastern States.
