CMC Hospital Ludhiana adds new imaging capabilities

Ludhiana, October 17, 2017: As part of its continuing legacy spanning four decades, in providing remarkable imaging services to its patients, the Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging at Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana now added state–of –the-art 3Tesla, High-field-strength MRI to its imaging capabilities.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Abraham G Thomas, Director, said, thisnew 3T MRI (Magnetom Spectra, Siemens, Germany) is a quiet MRI system with fast scanning capabilities and excellent Image quality. It will enable us to offer our patientsa friendly radiation free, quiet and comfortable surrounding and its faster imagingwill reduce the scan time, a feature very useful especially for children and anxious patients. With its higher field strength, we will be able to offer excellent image quality to referring clinicians enabling an in-depth assessment aiding improved management strategies.

Giving further details about the newly installed MRI machine Dr. UttamB. George, HOD of Radiology department, said, “Our excellent array of high-end surface coils would in addition, provide superior resolution for better delineation of finer pathologies. Of the various such coils, there is a unique dedicated breast imaging coil with superior technology for characterizing breast lesions, a feature useful in breast cancer detection and management. There is provision also for state-of-the art Neuro-imaging with specialized hardware and high end software for imaging brain tracts and also functional MRI aiding neurosurgical planning and treatment.”
Special advanced options for Musculo-skeletal, Abdominal, and Cardiovascular Imaging is also available with very high resolution scanning capabilities. There is also provision for advanced Oncology Imaging with features such as Diffusion Weighted Imaging for whole body cancer detection,Spectroscopy, Perfusion, and multi parametric prostate MRI aiding in early detection and more accurate diagnostic decision making.
With this advanced facility we hope to extend the best Imaging services to all patients not only in Punjab but the entire region. Patients who have undergone imaging in this new facility were happy to undergo the process and found the machine very friendly, and quiet and fast.
