CMC Hospital begins its 125 year Celebrations

Ludhiana, March 1, 2019: As part of the Quasquicentennial(125 years)celebrations, the administration at Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana decided to build Dr. Brown Heritage center to pay homage to CMC’s founder, Dame Edith Mary Brown. The heritage center was inaugurated by Shri Brahm Mohindra, Health minister of Punjab on March 1, 2019.
In the Heritage center Dr. Brown’s furniture, the Bible used by her (1761) and her clock is kept. Other displays include original archival photographs, medical and teaching equipment used many years back and old documents. Some of the interesting items include a photograph of the first four students enrolled in the 1890s, the light code based on-call system, CMCs electricity installation order (1934), the mallet with which the ground breaking ceremony of the main building was conducted, an ancient steam sterilizer and many others.
After, inaugurating the center Shri Brahm Mohindra was welcomed by Dr. William Bhatti, Director CMC hospital, Ludhiana. Dr.Sudhir Jospeh, Chariman, Governing body members of CMC Hospital, Dr.Jeyaraj Pandian, Principal, Dr.Reena Jairus, Principal College of Nursing were present among many dignitaries and officials.
Chief Guest, Shri Brahm Monhidra, Health Minister of Punjab, declared the yearlong Quasquicentennial celebrations of CMC opened. Speaking on the occasion, he congratulated CMC hospital for making history by serving the nation for 125 years and said that the Punjab government will always stand by CMC as the hospital continues to serve the poor and needy of the nation. CMC honored the NGOs who consistently come forward to help CMC to help the underprivileged population of the region; the representatives of these NGOs were given mementos by the chief guest.
The program was graced by opening prayers and hymns. The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Anil Luther gave the vote of thanks and the program was concluded with the National Anthem.
