Ludhiana, October 8, 2018: Dr.Anupam Mahajan, Senior Consultant, Associate Professor and expert arthroscopy and arthroplasty surgeon at Christian Medical College (CMC) and Hospital, Ludhiana was invited as a guest speaker at the 17th Annual conference of the Indian Arthroscopy Society held in Calicut, Kerala from 5th to 7th October 2018. Around 500 international and national surgeons interacted and discussed various arthroscopic (keyhole) techniques for treating disorders of the knee, shoulder and hip joints. Dr Anupam Mahajan, one of the few experienced arthroscopy surgeons in the region delivered a talk on the topic “Healing of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) grafts: Where and when?” He deliberated on the various graft options available in ligament injuries of the knee and how they heal. He informed that ligament injuries of the knee commonly happen in athletes as well as during road traffic accidents. Not all patients with ligament injuries may require surgery and many of them heal with bracing, ice therapy, medications and physiotherapy. Surgery may be indicated in a select group of patients who have pain or feel unstable after non-operative treatment or those who suffer multi-ligamentous injuries or those associated with bony fractures or in athletes. After surgery and a period of rehabilitation, the person is able to lead a normal lifestyle and even go back to sports.
