CM gives green signal to Rs. 825- Cr Shahpur Kandi dam project

Chandigarh, March 8, 2013: In a significant decision, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today approved to issue the letter to proceed with the work to the constructing agency for the construction of Rs. 825 crore Main Dam of Shahpur Kandi Dam Project.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s office said that a decision to this effect was taken during the 3^rd meeting of Shahpur Kandi Dam Project Construction Board held under the Chairmanship of Mr. Badal here at his official residence this evening.

It was informed in the meeting that Soma-Bureya (Joint Venture) had qualified by quoting lowest rates amongst nine international bidders.

The spokesmen further informed that for the Rs. 2,285 crore Shahpur Kandi Dam Project comprising 55.5 metre high dam with two power houses having total installed capacity of 206 MW, across the River Ravi, the Chief Minister also approved to initiate the Rs. 90 crore Hydel Channel work for which Punjab State Power Com had already floated the tender for Turbines.

Prominent amongst those whose were present in the meeting included Irrigation Minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh, Principal Secretary Home DS Bains, Principal Secretary Irrigation KBS Sidhu, Special Principal Secretary to the CM KJS Cheema, Secretary Power Anirudh Tiwari, Technical Advisor to the CM Lt. Gen. (Retd.) BS Dhaliwal, Chief Engineer Shahpur Kandi Dam Construction Harvinder Singh, Chief Engineer Shahpur Kandi Dam Design Subash Kumar Nabh besides other members of the board.
