CJM Pathankot along with 24 other tourists rescued from Sach Pass

Dharamshala, June 22, 2017: CJM Pathankot along with24 other tourists were rescued from Sach Pass. These tourists were stranded there due to snapped road links after sudden change of weather on Tuesday/Wednesday.
This was disclosed by DC Chamba Mr Sudesh Mokhta today on phone. He said that these tourists stranded in high-altitude areas of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh were rescued on Thursday.
Mokhta said, “As many as 25 tourists, including a Chief Judicial Magistrate posted in Punjab's Pathankot town, were rescued from Saach Pass. They were stuck there after road links to the area snapped due to inclement weather on Wednesday.” He said that two medical teams provided first aid to the rescued tourists, one from Pangi and second from Tissa.
Sach Pass is a 4,420-metre-high (14,500 ft) mountain pass in Chamba District, Himachal Pradesh, India on the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. It is 127 km from the District Headquarters Chamba and 260 kms from Dharamshala . It connects the Chamba valley with the Pangi valley (with Killar as its head quarter) of Himachal Pradesh, India.
Saach Pass was reopened to motorists last week after remaining closed for seven months due to snow. Generally the pass is opened from June or early July to mid October. The road is narrow but is the shortest and toughest route from Chamba to the Killar (170 km) and was newly constructed. Other main routes are Chamba-Manali-Killar(680 km) and Chamba-Jammu-Doda-Gulabgarh-Killar(570 km) which are very long routes if compared to the Chamba-Sach Pass-Killar route.
